The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics has a record 53 out gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender athletes. Team LGBT won 23 medals and coverage of LGBT issues was as high as any Olympics. There were commercials featuring transgender and gay athletes, marriage proposals on and off the field and a larger awareness that sports is no longer off limits based on one's sexual orientation or gender identity.
