Sexuality in sports project seeks athletes from women's sports

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Hello, Outsports Community!

My name is Katherine Pyles, and I am a junior Sociology major at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. For a social research course, three other sociology/anthropology students at my university and I are conducting research on team bonding within women's sports, with a specific focus on how sexuality and homophobia play a role in how an athlete experiences being a part of her team.

As I'm sure all of us are aware, homophobia is a real problem within sports, and it doesn't go away simply because the target of such discrimination is a woman. We are hoping to shed light on this issue in the quantitative portion of our research. My teammates and I are surveying adult women who have participated in or are currently a part of a team sport. The survey takes an average of 10 minutes, and is completely anonymous.

Our survey can be found at

My group members and I would be grateful if you spread the link around, as the more responses we receive, the more broadly we can investigate this issue.

My group and I appreciate you taking your time to read this. Please let me know if I can answer any remaining questions.

Thank you all, and have a great day.
