Harvard swimmer Schuyler Bailar is featured in this year’s Out100. The annual list by Out magazine highlights various LGBT people who have made news headlines, shaped culture and advanced visibility over the last year.

Bailar came out publicly in 2015 as transgender, one of the few known trans athletes in NCAA Division 1. In fact, he’s believed to be the first publicly out trans swimmer in D1 history. While some trans men, like Kye Allums, have participated on women’s teams, Bailar swims for for the men’s team at Harvard.

Bailar is the only LGBT athlete included in the Out100 this year. Previous lists have included multiple people from the sports world. This year’s list is again dominated by people in entertainment and fashion.

The Harvard junior has been an inspiration for LGBT athletes everywhere, highlighted by ‘60 Minutes’ in 2016.

Congratulations Schuyler on the well-deserved recognition, and congratulations to the Out editorial staff on a great choice.
