Hello Outsports Community!

My name is Jeff MacCharles and I am a PhD student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. My advisor and I are currently seeking participants for a study that explores the career paths and progression of gay men who are working, who have worked or who hope to work in the sport industry.

We hope the study’s findings will help sport organizations learn more about how gay males end up pursuing careers in the sport industry. From a practical perspective, this study provides practitioners with knowledge and information that can be used to help with recruitment and retention of gay male sport employees.

Participation in this study would require a commitment of 1-2 hours of your time, which would be spread out over two sessions: an individual life mapping exercise (completed on your own time) and a brief interview. During the interview, a range of questions will be asked, from general questions about your career path to more specific questions about your life history based on your life mapping exercise. Interviews can be done by telephone or videoconference and scheduled at a time that is convenient for you. A brief follow-up email or phone call may be necessary for data confirmation.

If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact me by email at jmaccharles@umass.edu.

Thank you very much for your time.
