The 2017 Outsports Awards

Every year there is reason to celebrate the previous 52 weeks, and each year Outsports recognizes some of the people who made the year the most memorable.

This year we awarded recognition in six categories:

• Person of the Year
• Male Athlete of the Year
• Female Athlete of the Year
• Female Hero of the Year
• Male Hero of the Year
• Asshole of the Year

In addition to all those named this year, we congratulate every LGBTQ person in sports who has achieved this season. Being out and living your truth is the highest accomplishment anyone can make. And doing so means others may follow by your example. To all we say, keep it up! Because Courage Is Contagious, and you never know how your truth may inspire someone else to find theirs.

With these awards celebrate the athletes, coaches and sports personnel who make us proud every day of the year.
