In celebration of the Super Bowl this weekend, Logo sat down with several out LGBT athletes to talk with them about being an out athlete. Trans rower Liam and lesbian tennis player Ashley Dai both talked about the fear before coming out and the true bonds that get formed on an athletic team.

Columbia rowing coach Nich Lee Parker admits that he “foolishly thought I could go to Ohio State and convert myself into a straight man.”

The best part of the revelation by Parker is that he laughs about it in the video. Having come out on the other end and found acceptance as an out coach, he can finally laugh about it. While there are many who still can’t find levity in the struggles they are in the middle of, it makes us smile that Parker has found his way to happiness.
