It was a banner year for LGBTQ people coming out in sports, as Outsports recorded 185, a high in the five years since we’ve been compiling the list.

This list does not mean that the person came out for the first time in 2017, but that they made their sexual orientation or gender identity public in the media for the first time.

If you know of someone who should be on this list, email us ([email protected]). And if you’d like to tell your coming-out story on Outsports, we’d love to share it.
