Brittany Bowe finished in fifth place in the 500-meter, again tantalizingly close to a medal.

The out American speed skater has had a fantastic Olympic games, completing her individual events with a fourth-place finish and two fifth places. Of course it’s a tough pill to swallow being that close to a medal and not winning one.

Yet Bowe has done herself proud. She was the top American skater in all three of her events, and her consistently top finishes was among the best in women’s speed skating so far.

In the team pursuit, the United States beat Poland in the quarterfinals. They now face the Netherlands in the semifinals, a race that will be virtually impossible for the Americans to win.

Bowe’s chances of an Olympic medal will likely rest in the bronze-medal race that will, in all likeliehood, be against Canada. While Bowe’s Olympics will have been a success regardless of the outcome, we hope she can take home a piece of hardware for all of her hard work.
