The field for the men’s NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament has been announced, and at least 10 of the athletic departments represented have demonstrated an effort to build LGBTQ inclusion on their sports teams by creating a You Can Play video.
Some of these videos were created before any of the current players competed for their school. Still, they show a commitment to diversity and inclusion of LGBTQ people by the school’s athletics department.
While none of these men’s teams has a publicly out athlete, we will continue to showcase efforts to demonstrate the inclusive atmosphere we know exists on the majority of NCAA teams.
Here are the teams that have published a video to demonstrate that inclusive atmosphere:
NC State Wolfpack:
Miami Hurricanes:
University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC):
The Ohio State Buckeyes:
University of Cincinnati Bearcats:
University of Missouri Tigers:
As we’ve said for years, most college athletic teams are entirely ready to embrace a gay coach or player coming out to them or coming out publicly. And we at Outsports stand ready to support them.
