ESPN’s Body Issue is out, and does it ever deliver for the LGBTQ community. Three athletes are featured, all of whom are fantastic choices for their statuses as both heroic trailblazers and sex symbols.
Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird are the first same-sex couple featured on the cover of the magazine. The soccer and basketball stars announced they are a couple last year. Most remarkable is Bird’s participation. She only came out publicly last year after years of speculation. Now she’s naked on the cover of a magazine with her girlfriend. Pretty incredible.
Adam Rippon is also on the cover of this year’s Body Issue. The figure skater has shown off his fit body since wowing the world at the Winter Olympics, including a photo shoot with Out magazine. This is the first time people are seeing… another side of him. And now we know what helps figure skaters execute all of those jumps.
