Last week was packed to the gills with outstanding pro wrestling featuring an abundance of LGBTQ talent, but Saturday provided an enduring moment for both LGBTQ and women’s pro wrestling: the coronation of out competitor Ashley Vox and Delmi Exo, collectively known as Team Sea Stars.

The sisters took their talents to Berwyn, Ill., for a weekend of SHIMMER tapings and returned home the new SHIMMER tag team champions.

Team Sea Stars became number one contenders for the titles after dispatching the team of Skylar and Davienne on Saturday. They went on to battle two SHIMMER icons, Mercedes Martinez and Cheerleader Melissa, later that day during tapings for SHIMMER Volume 115. Their victory ended Martinez and Melissa’s 370-day reign atop the all-women promotion’s tag team division.

Taking the gold proved to be a pretty good birthday present for Vox — no relation to our parent company — even if the win came one day afterward. To say Exo and Vox, along with their fans, were excited wouldn’t begin to scratch the surface.

But winning the titles wasn’t the end of Team Sea Stars’ weekend. The duo went on to defend their newly won titles twice on Sunday. The champs defeated the team of Jessica Troy and Chali Evans and the stacked twosome of Willow Nightingale and Solo Darling during tapings for SHIMMER Volume 116 and 117 respectively.

Vox and Exo emerged from a weekend full of Flopping Fishes — their signature finishing move — with their most prestigious honors to date. They’re now set to carry SHIMMER’s tag team mantle for some time to come.
