When Liverpool and Egypt star Mo Salah shaved his famous beard, it got 2.8 million likes on his Instagram page and it also got the attention of teammate Andy Robertson, who was caught in a total bromance moment that sent Liverpool fans into high gear.

The post on the official Liverpool Instagram page garnered 456,000 likes and 3,400 comments as I write this, some of them unfortunately homophobic since it showed two dudes in close proximity, which means they must be gay. Notwithstanding that Robertson has a longtime girlfriend and Salah is married to a woman.

Fortunately, most of the comments I was able to read (I have no idea what the comments in Arabic say) are of the “this is cute” variety or benign jokes about them being a couple said with a light tone. On Twitter, there were many variations of “find someone who looks at you the way Andy looks at Mo,” or comments like, “Someone PLEASE pitch a gay romance broso drama to Netflix.”

I found it discussed on at least four Reddit threads, which shows how these spontaneous moments get a life of their own on social media. Salah’s teammates also got into the act, with his close friend Dejan Lovren saying on social media: ‘Mo is gone, so I have a new friend. Welcome Hamed Mahrous Ghaly. I like it.’

In case you’re wondering, here is what Salah looked like with his beard. I personally prefer the clean-shaven look but to each his own:
