Good morning and welcome to The Huddle for today, December 3, 2020. It’s Thursday, or, as my friend Robin Roberts of Good Morning America calls it, “Friday Eve.” This week sure has been some year, hasn’t it?

Your need to read time today is 90-seconds, as usual.

OutShouts:

Let’s welcome Chris McLeod, a new member of the GO! SPACE Facebook group! Today he posted that he is recuperating at a hospital in Washington State following successful hip replacement surgery. Get well soon, Coach!

McLeod writes: “My love of sports was ignited in a wrestling room in Havre, MT filled with future Olympians, Division 1 athletes and Coaching Hall-of-Famers (Dennis Campbell, Bob Zadick, and Scott Barrett to name a few.) Although I was well-rounded in most mainstream sports, I excelled in wrestling and football…

“I have coached at all levels, from youth to professionals in a multitude of sports. My youth coaching experience includes USA Wrestling, USA Boxing, First Tee Golf, Basketball, Volleyball, AYSO Soccer, and USA Football…

“About a year and a half ago, I embarked on a new journey which began with telling my wife of 10 years, that I was gay. She was, at that time, the only person who knew. I have since opened up to our 5 children and our closest friends and family, but it is time to let the rest of the world know. There are tough issues to address and crucial conversations to be had in terms of ensuring that LGBTQ+ coaches, athletes and allies can feel safe and supported in the world of athletics at every level and I want to be part of the movement that reshapes that landscape.”

If you’re an LGBTQ person in sports looking to connect with others in the community, head over to GO! SPACE to meet and interact with other LGBTQ athletes, or to Equality Coaching Alliance to find other coaches, administrators and other non-athletes in sports.
