That time Steve Kornacki got in trouble for drawing a familiar shape

NBC Sports might want to avoid asking out gay national political correspondent Steve Kornacki to draw maps when he appears on its football broadcast this weekend.

Here’s something you won’t likely see Sunday night, when NBC Sports invites NBC News national political correspondent Steve Kornacki to join its broadcast of the Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs game: anything resembling a penis.

It was clearly not supposed to be a dick pic when the out gay news guy used his famous “big board” to draw a very rough outline of the United States, back in 2016.

But when Kornacki appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on the night after the 2020 presidential election, he and the late-night talk show host reminisced about how his poorly-sketched map — and Fallon’s use of the clip on his show — got him in trouble with NBC News brass.

Here’s a look back from an appearance Kornacki made on Fallon’s show on Nov. 4, 2020:

“I didn’t know I was making people laugh,” Kornacki told Fallon.
