Oh, the things we do when we’re stuck at home, social distancing because of the coronavirus, and looking to connect with someone outside our own space.

A webcam, two very large glasses of adult beverages and an Instagram Live video provided an opportunity to do just that Saturday night, for Sue Bird and her girlfriend Megan Rapinoe.

They shared stories, they laughed, and they even performed some impromptu Karaoke.

Bird also shared a funny story from early in their relationship, about a party that exposed the USWNT captain to be a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. Rapinoe apparently tried to keep up with a few WNBA superstars at that party, and failed miserably. In particular, we’re talking about players who, like Bird, played for the University of Connecticut.

And from Saturday’s posts on Instagram, it appears she’s still trying to keep up.

The Hartford Courant’s Alexa Philippou shared a portion of the couple’s Instagram live video chat on Twitter, and NESN published more details in a story Sunday night.

As NESN reported, Rapinoe had joined Bird on a vacation to Hawaii, along with some of her girlfriend’s friends and fellow UConn alumna, the Mercury’s Diana Taurasi and her now spouse, Phoenix assistant coach Penny Taylor.

“From noon until like 9 p.m. that night we get there, we have the chardonnays, we’re excited, we’re drinking,” Bird said, according to NESN. “It’s vacation, drinks, Diana is doing the pours. Strong pours. That’s a Russia pour. I’m not going to bore you with the details, but we find out later that [Megan Rapinoe] left dinner to go to the bathroom a couple times to throw up. One time she threw up in a plant.”

Rapinoe recalls it differently, according to NESN. “I wish it was in a plant, it was in the foyer heading to the bathroom.”

As the story goes, Rapinoe ended up passed out on the bathroom floor while the rest of the women enjoyed their evening.

The Seattle Storm and four-time Olympic gold medalist explained, “I’m just going to say this right now for anyone asking, you can’t drink with UConn players,” Bird said. “It’s something about how they recruit us. It’s like in our DNA.”

“Well I was trying to keep up with you and D [Diana Taurasi]. That was a fucking disaster,” Rapinoe said in the video. “I didn’t know. I didn’t know.”
