Why not Megan?

U.S. women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe told Joe Biden Thursday she would be willing to be his vice presidential pick and run against Donald Trump this fall. The two-time World Cup champ hosted an Instagram Live chat with the presumptive Democratic nominee and his wife Jill.

“I don’t want to put you on the spot — I think I could still play soccer and do this,” Rapinoe said. “But if you need a vice president, I’m just saying I’m available for an interview. We can talk logistics and the details. Put it on your list.”

Jill Biden said she “loved” the idea, and the former vice president said his granddaughter would as well. Biden has committed to selecting a woman as his VP.

It’s worth noting a poll conducted after the World Cup last summer showed Rapinoe would defeat Trump 42-41 in a general election matchup. …

Rapinoe is one of the most politically active stars in sports today, championing the USWNT’s cause for equal pay. The club is currently engrossed in an ugly lawsuit with the U.S. Soccer Federation over the matter. Earlier this year, U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro resigned in disgrace after USSF court filings that demean the skill level of their own female players were leaked to the press.

Rapinoe, who’s dating WNBA star Sue Bird, originally endorsed Elizabeth Warren for president. “I truly believe the best things in life are a result of being bold and being real,” Rapinoe tweeted. “I’m proud to endorse Elizabeth Warren today, for being bold, for being real, for listening to ALL of us, and for being prepared to navigate the unique challenges we face today as a country.”

In her conversation with Biden, Rapinoe said she supports his campaign because he’s looking to “bring people together.”
