Matt Lynch, a men’s college basketball coach who came out publicly as gay in April, was a guest on the “Tamron Hall” show Monday.
Lynch said he was interviewed by Hall for about 15 minutes and also recorded a video diary for the show, which he described as powerful.
Lynch, 29, came out as gay in an April essay where he said he did not want to “die with the lie.” Watch the clip from Tamron Hall’s TV interview by clicking here, or below:
He was an assistant coach at Division I UNC-Wilmington until being dismissed along with the entire staff in Match.
“I am probably a little crazy to decide to make this so public with everything else that is going on (like being unemployed, or a worldwide pandemic or a hiring freeze throughout the coaching profession),” Lynch wrote.
“But I wanted to try and find a way use a negative time for something positive. I don’t know if I will be able to get another college basketball job as an openly gay coach, but I refuse to take any job where I am not my authentic self. I refuse to die with the lie.”
Since coming out, Lynch has received nothing but positive feedback from inside and outside of basketball and has done several media interviews, was a guest at the prestigious Commonwealth Club and on Tuesday will address employees at the Wasserman agency, which has a large sports talent component, as part of its Pride month (I will also be a guest).
