LGBTQ pro wrestling trail blazer and former WWE wrestler Fred Rosser is bringing the #BlockTheHate campaign to New Japan Pro Wrestling.

According to a NJPW blog post, “Mr. No Days Off” will make his debut with the company on the first night of NJPW’s forthcoming two-night Fighting Spirit Unleashed event on September 4. Rosser will team with Alex Zayne against the team of Clark Conners and The DKC.

Rosser celebrated the announcement on Instagram with his trademark positivity, calling NJPW a “bucket list promotion” for himself. “Our mind is so damn powerful and I can promise you when we fill it with positive thoughts your whole world will change,” Rosser said. “Opportunity doesn’t make appointments.”

Rosser’s NJPW appearance marks another historic moment for LGBTQ pro wrestling as he will be one of if not the first out wrestler to compete for the King of Sports. NJPW previously courted LGBTQ audiences with the queer-coded partnership of Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega, collectively known as the Golden Lovers.

Fighting Spirit Unleashed is the latest in a string of events held at the NJPW Los Angeles Dojo featuring U.S.-based wrestlers that are unable to participate in NJPW’s regular Japanese tours due to travel restrictions tied to the coronavirus pandemic. The circumstances have allowed the company to expand its repertoire of North American talent, including Rosser.
