Following calls from tennis legend Billie Jean King to rename the Margaret Court Arena after its namesake’s long history of publicly anti-gay stances, Andy Murray has added to the growing list of top tennis players to support the calls to rename the arena.

“I don’t think her values are what tennis stands for,” Murray said in an interview with Pridelife.com. “She has obviously offended and upset a lot of people over the years.”

Murray is a vocal supporter of women’s rights and the LGBTQ community. He spoke out in 2017 against Margaret Court’s anti-gay marriage stance. His former coach, WTA Hall of Famer Amélie Mauresmo, is an out lesbian and helped coach Murray to seven titles — including his first two on clay — during their two-year partnership.

Earlier this year, the Australian Open held a muted celebration for the 50-year anniversary of Court’s historic Grand Slam win.
