Traditionally, college football rivalries bring out a lot of swagger and rage in their respective fanbases with very little in the way of actual humor. Fan behavior often boils down to “clever” trolling activities like Ohio State students crossing out every M on campus during Michigan week.
If you ever come across someone who actually laughs at that, immediately cross to the other side of the street. Even if you’re on I-70.
This season, however, online fans of the Cal Golden Bears have figured out how to trash talk rival schools in a genuinely funny way.
They are doing so by leaning in to the stereotypes of their home city of Berkeley when they play schools in red states, with a heavy dose of gay-infused smack talk that actually empowers our community in a snarky way.

Cal Twitter caught national attention with a perfect bit of smack talk after the Golden Bears upset Auburn on the road two weeks ago. After the game, Cal fans celebrated on social media by taking a rainbow-accented victory lap…
When that meme went viral, Cal Twitter creators were off to the races trying to one up each other with Woke Agenda smack. All that was needed was another deserving target, perhaps one especially known for its anti-LGBTQ legislation.
So who is Cal playing this week?
The Florida State Seminoles.
DeSantis routinely says that “Florida is where woke goes to die.”
Cal Twitter is boarding the “Stop Climate Change Airlines” with the Golden Bears football team to see if he’s right.
At a facility called Doak Campbell Stadium. Or at least it was until today…
These memes are completely tongue in cheek, of course. But it’s not wrong to realize that if Cal actually made over Doak Campbell in rainbow sparkles, it would be the most beautiful building in the entire state of Florida.
