LGBTQ athletes scored the most medals they collectively ever have at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
Team LGBTQ won 29 total medals at the Paralympics. At the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago, the group of out LGBTQ athletes won a total of 25 medals.
Team LGBTQ finished in 16th place in total medals, tied with Canada and India for overall total medals. However, the collective group of athletes finished in 11th place with the more traditional method of counting Olympic and Paralympic medal standing, starting with total number of gold medals (12), then silver (11), then bronze (6). That bests countries like Germany and Canada.
American para swimmer Christie Raleigh Crossley led the out LGBTQ athletes with five medals — two golds, two silvers and a bronze — at these Paris Paralympics.
