San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver, who said before the Super Bowl he does not want to play with a gay teammate, today visited the Trevor Project in Los Angeles, as he had promised to do.

Culliver tweeted from the Trevor Project offices:

Great time at LGBTQ the Q is for (question)

Think about the power of just that tweet. This is a guy who just a month ago said publicly he did not want to play with a gay teammate. Today he not only visited a "gay" organization, and he not only took a picture and tweeted about it, but he referred to it as LGBTQ and even explained the meaning of the Q for those who didn't know!

Some people want to destroy every athlete who says something bad about LGBT people, but this whole story is demonstrating the power of redemption. As I wrote after the controversy erupted, we should be thankful he said what he said as good can come of it. And it is.
