Sanne van Dijke won a bronze medal for Netherlands in judo at the Tokyo Summer Olympics on Thursday.

Van Dijke competes in the 70kg category. She previously won a bronze medal at the 2021n World Championships in Budapest, and she was the European champion in both 2017 and 2021.

She has posted on Instagram about her girlfriend, fellow Olympic judoka Natalie Powell of Team Great Britain, with the adorable caption “Home is wherever I’m with you.” Powell finished ninth in the 78kg category in Tokyo.

Several out women in the 78kg+ category have yet to compete, including American Nina Cutro-Kelly, German Jasmine Grabowski, and Tessie Savelkouls of Netherlands.

Van Dijke is the 12th publicly out LGBTQ athlete we know of to win a medal at these Olympic Games, and the medal is the ninth for Team LGBTQ. You can see our updated list of publicly out Olympians in Tokyo here.
