Ramsey Angela won a silver medal in the men’s 4x400-meter relay at the Tokyo Olympics with his Netherlands relay team, a somewhat surprise finish for the out LGBTQ athlete and his team.

Angela ran the anchor leg for Netherlands in 44.12, crossing the finish line second behind the team from the United States.

The Netherlands team set a national record for the event, breaking the record they set earlier this week in their heat. They finished only fifth in that heat, yet broke through in the outside lane to grab a silver medal in the final.

It’s just six months ago that he started sharing Instagram photos of himself and his boyfriend. Angela never had a big “coming out” moment in the media, or a public declaration, that we know of. He simply started being out, and it’s been adorable to watch.

Earlier in the Olympics, Ramsey was part of the Dutch 4x400-meter mixed relay team, which finished fourth, also behind the United States.
