Being the second-ranked college football team is hazardous to that team's health. Oregon was upset, 34-24, by Arizona on Thursday, joining South Florida, USC, Boston College and Cal as No. 2 teams to fall in recent weeks. The Ducks suffered a big blow when Heisman hopeful Dennis Dixon, their quarterback, suffered a knee injury in the first period and they never recovered.
The loss leaves the race for the BCS title wide open. Don't ask me to predict any more -- I thought Oregon was the best team in the country, so any opinion has a shelf life of about a week this season. The final three weeks of the regular season will have to play out before we'll really know. --Jim Buzinski
