It’s been a busy 48 hours in the trade market . . .

As we said, Jason Taylor has done his last Neutrogena commercial as a Dolphin. (As a Dolphins fan, I'm a little bummed, I knew it had to happen, but I wish it had gone down with a little less bitterness on both sides.)

durham.jpgAn interesting trade went down in baseball, as San Francisco’s Ray Durham was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. Now, that’s normally not a big deal, veterans get traded all the time. But the difference was the trade in this case happened moments before the two teams were supposed to play each other. And citing the length of service he’d had with the Giants, Durham requested his trade not be announced until after the game, since he didn’t want his first game as a Brewer to be against his old teammates. Milwaukee granted the request, and once the final out was recorded, then the announcement came. Classy move by the Brew Crew.

And speaking of class acts, noted closet-case repentant ex-homophobe Jeremy Shockey was traded to New Orleans Monday afternoon for a 2nd & 5th round pick in the 2009 Draft. Jeremy, as you may remember, became GLAAD’s absolute favorite person in the world back in 2002, when asked by Howard Stern what he would do if a gay player were on his team and said he wouldn’t “stand for it.” He also re-dipped his foot in the anti-gay pool when he called Bill Parcells a “homo” in 2003. He later apologized for these remarks and has, thankfully, shut up with his attempts at “humor” and tried to pick up his game on the field.

The result of that, of course, has been statistically excellent play (4 Pro Bowls, 4200+ yards receiving, and 27 TD's), but never really gelling with the team as a whole. Never was this more evident than when unheralded Kevin Boss stepped up to the plate when Jeremy got injured last season and helped the Giants tremendously en route to their championship. This made Shockey very expendable.

So, a lot of people are calling this trade addition by subtraction for the G-men. And the Saints will get yet another target for Drew Brees to throw to. And it's just in time for Jeremy to attend Southern Decadence! It's win-win for everyone. -Kelvin Cabrera
