We’re less than two weeks out from the election, so I wanted to give a quick update on the marriage fight in Maine. Depending on the poll you look at, it’s likely a dead heat right now. The No On 1 campaign (pro-gay-marriage) has gotten endorsements from the Bangor Daily News and Portland Press Herald, which can’t hurt.
After the jump, I've included a wonderful speech by an 86-year-old World War II veteran about why he believes he risked his life in Europe in 1944 so that gay people can marry.
The opposition's campaign hinges on the unfounded argument that gay sex will be taught in schools if same-sex marriage is legalized. It's a similar schtick to the one that was so successful in California last November.
Please, if you can, donate to the No On 1 campaign. While Maine might be hundreds or thousands of miles from where you live, both sides agree that a victory in Maine would be MONUMENTAL for gay-marriage rights everywhere. Please, donate what you can: $35 can help!!! You can also help volunteer even if you don't live in Maine!
