On the other hand I am using basketball as a medium to support the mission statement of Lambda Basketball. In 2004, I walked on the court a stranger and today I am family. Our personalities, backgrounds, orientations, cultures and skill levels make Lambda Basketball beautiful. Lambda Basketball equals family. In 2008, I witnessed the growth of Lambda Basketball from a league to a community-action group. On and off the court, basketball is our medium to promote STD awareness, break stereotypes and eliminate homophobia. I play Lambda Basketball and I am creating change. | F.L.A.G. Flag Football flagflagfootball.com Boston, Massachusetts Flag Football Founded: 1998 FLAG (Friends Lesbians And Gays) Flag Football has maintained a healthy balance of competitive play, social opportunities and community involvement. In 2008, our 10th anniversary, we grew from a few teams to 14 teams with 190 players. The leadership stresses off-the-field involvement by participating in area charities including Waltham House, Boston Living Center and Community Servings. We sponsor social events as a way to develop friendships: Meet Your Team Party, Team Dinner Night, Killer Karaoke Night and an End of Year Awards Banquet. Most importantly, the league promotes sportsmanship on the field while running an efficient organization. Games start on time, officials are well-trained, captains go through a rigid selection process, and new members are always made to feel welcome. |
