Everyone is eligible to vote. The spirit of the competition is that each voter can vote in each contest one time; We chose a software that limits votes-per-person for that reason. We hope everyone will hold to that spirit of the competition. And we reserve the right to dismiss individual votes if we find that this guideline has been violated.

Soccer
Founded: 2003

Our league is a soccer-based community of gay men, lesbians, trans people, bisexuals, and queers of all stripes (and friends). Men and women are not separate: we play, cheer, and socialize together. Our random draft ensures fresh teams every year made up of men and women, with skills ranging from professional-level players to absolute novices. Some members have formed competitive teams and travelled the world together. Back home, we host the Toronto International Pride Cup (www.tipc.org), going into its third year in 2009. Every year we offer our membership five unique, themed team-driven fundraisers (last year’s Cirque du So-Gay raised double our target). Our executive is formed by an annual open voting process and all members are encouraged to run.

Ice Hockey
Founded: 2006

GForce is a collection of elite gay hockey players from across the country. We compete at an exceptional level against primarily straight opponents while working to deconstruct negative stereotypes both on and off the ice. Our team travels to tournaments around the country including our annual flagship event, a gay vs. straight competition at Aspen Gay Ski Week called the “Friendship Cup”. GForce has also produced a documentary on our mission and organized educational panels with celebrity athletes discussing gays in sports. GForce believes that ignorance and intolerance must be eliminated from sports that involve so many children and adults. We envision a culture in which players of all ages in all sports are respected for their talent and their attitude.
