 Long Beach Grunion Swim Teamlbgrunions.org Long Beach, California Swimming Founded: 2002 The Grunions are an all-inclusive masters swim team, formed to provide an opportunity to meet people and socialize outside the bar and party scene. We strive to embrace the values of diversity, participation, service, fun, fitness and personal growth. Our members are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and straight ranging in age from 19 to 76. At IGLA Championships in 2003, 2007 and 2008 the Grunions won first place in the medium-size team competition and in 2008 placed first in the coveted Pink Flamingo event. We hosted the SPMA SCM Championship meet for the 5th consecutive year and the Naples Island (Long Beach, CA) Open Water swim the past two years. Flag Football flagflagfootball.com Boston, Massachusetts Flag Football Founded: 1998 FLAG (Friends Lesbians And Gays) Flag Football has maintained a healthy balance of competitive play, social opportunities and community involvement. In 2008, our 10th anniversary, we grew from a few teams to 14 teams with 190 players. The leadership stresses off-the-field involvement by participating in area charities including Waltham House, Boston Living Center and Community Servings. We sponsor social events as a way to develop friendships: Meet Your Team Party, Team Dinner Night, Killer Karaoke Night and an End of Year Awards Banquet. Most importantly, the league promotes sportsmanship on the field while running an efficient organization. Games start on time, officials are well-trained, captains go through a rigid selection process, and new members are always made to feel welcome. |
