Men and women are not separate: we play, cheer, and socialize together. Our random draft ensures fresh teams every year made up of men and women, with skills ranging from professional-level players to absolute novices. Some members have formed competitive teams and travelled the world together. Back home, we host the Toronto International Pride Cup (www.tipc.org), going into its third year in 2009. Every year we offer our membership five unique, themed team-driven fundraisers (last year’s Cirque du So-Gay raised double our target). Our executive is formed by an annual open voting process and all members are encouraged to run. |  Not So Strictly Ballroomnotsostrictlyballroom.ca Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada DanceSport Founded: 1994 Starting with a small group of women in 1994, the volunteer-driven NSSB now has a supportive dance community of men and women of all ages. We provide a venue and professional training for LGBT people to live out their dreams to dance both socially and competitively as same-sex dancers. To see two men or two women switching roles on the dance floor from lead to follow, is thrilling and unique to the dance world at large. Our accomplishments include: Competing in Montreal’s 2006 Outgames competitions plus other international and continental competitions; Holding our first “Queer Dance Classic”, same-sex dance competition in 2007; Representation on the board of the North American Same-Sex Partner Dance Association Board. |
