Outsports at 10: The 'naughty' NFL

Outsports is 10 years old and we are highlighting some stories that are personal favorites.

Today is our most viewed story ever, from 2005 -- when the NFL banned the word "gay" on personalized jerseys saying it was a "naughty" word. The absurdity was that "gay" was not OK, but "gay nazi" was. It was quickly reversed after the Outsports story appeared and the mainstream media picked up the story.

What was just as popular was the accompanying list of the-then 1,100+ words you could not put on an NFL jersey. Who knew there were that many curse words?
