San Francisco's annual Bay to Breakers 12k race is a 100-year-old tradition, complete with runners in wacky costumes. With the announcement today, just a week after the race, that sponsor ING is pulling out of the event, the recently formed Big Gay 10k in San Francisco could be the beneficiary. While nothing can replace the insanity of Bay to Breakers, the Big Gay 10k is certainly putting forward a tone of the race that could help ease the pain. From the organizers:
Greater Than One, the endurance program of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, is excited to announce a new and very “only in San Francisco” event. The Big Gay 10K will take place on Saturday, August 14, 2010. Runners will compete in the 6.2 mile run along San Francisco Bay at Crissy Field. Runners also have the option to fundraise to help the San Francisco AIDS Foundation put an end to HIV. The Big Gay 10K is for everyone and promises to be a unique morning of running – or walking – for an important cause. Visit www.thebiggay10k.com to learn more and register today!
