Week 1 of the college football season is in the books, and the big winner was Boise State. The No. 3 Broncos beat No. 10 Virginia Tech, 33-30, to stake an early claim to a legitimate spot in a national title race. Boise State had to show a lot of heart, trailing by 4 points receiving a punt with two minutes left (this, of course, after blowing a 17-0 first-quarter lead).

In the "Illegal Use of Hands" college pick-em contest, two players got all 10 games correct: R. Lazear and D. Gooding. Not bad, considering they picked both Kansas State and Fresno State to win their games (both were big underdogs amongst ESPN's college football pick-em crowd).
