Compete Sports Diversity Awards to honor LGBT athletes in Los Angeles Tuesday night

Honorees include Jason & Jarron Collins, Scott Norton, Kirk Walker, Helen Carroll and others. The event also celebrates the first anniversary of StandUp Magazine.

Compete Magazine will honor some of the athletes, individuals and organizations that have meant so much to the LGBT sports movement in the last year at an awards ceremony in Los Angeles Nov. 12.

Among the honorees are:

  • NBA players Jason & Jarron Collins
  • Professional bowler Scott Norton
  • Major League Soccer player Robbie Rogers
  • UCLA assistant softball coach Kirk Walker
  • National Center for Lesbian Rights' Helen Carroll
  • Trans triathlete Chris Mosier
  • National Gay Flag Football League
Also celebrated at the event will be StandUp magazine, the partnership between Media Out Loud and the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, which highlights stories and columns about the power of sports to fight homophobia, bullying and other issues.
