Olympic skier Bode Miller has spoken out strongly against anti-gay Russian laws that could have an effect on the Winter Olympics in February. According to the Philip Hersh at the Chicago Tribune:

"I think it is absolutely embarrassing there are countries and people who are that intolerant or that ignorant," Miller told reporters Monday at the U.S. Olympic media summit. "It's not the first time. We have been dealing with human rights issues since there were humans.

"My main emotion when I hear and deal with situations like that is embarrassment. As a human being, I think it is embarrassing."

There have been precious few athletes who have vocally supported the Russian anti-gay laws. I kind of wish we'd hear from more of them. It's great that Miller and so many others are on our side. Who does think these laws are a good idea?

And if the number of athletes who support the law are in a minuscule minority, then what is the vast majority going to do to stand up against the law? We'll see.
