Anthony Nicodemo, the Saunders High School head boys basketball coach who came out publicly in 2013, has been named Conference II co-Coach of the Year by the Lower Hudson Basketball Coaches Association. It's the first time Nicodemo has won the award.

"What makes it great is that it is selected by my peers," Nicodemo told Outsports. "I get to coach against some of the best coaches in the sport, so to have them recognize our season is awesome. In the end my players and staff deserve the recognition. They work hard every day to help build the program."

When Nicodemo took over the team coaching duties in 2009, the school hadn't seen a winning boys basketball team in many years. His first season the team was 3-16. They had their first winning season in 2011/12 and haven't had a losing record since. This week they are the projected #3 seed in the NYSPHSAA Section One AA tournament.

Congratulations to Nicodemo, and to his All-Section and All-Conference Players: Derrick Felder and Anthony Miller.
