Nick Sutton today tweeted what looks to be the front page forThe Sunday Mirror for Aug. 16, 2015, and the image in the upper left shows a rugger with the title, "I am gay: First rugby league star comes out."

We're not sure who the player is, but this would be a powerful first for British sports. No rugby league player has come out publicly while active, though Gareth Thomas did play for the Crusaders in rugby league after coming out. The Crusaders picked him up in 2010 and he appeared in 31 caps for the club. Thomas was with rugby union's Cardiff Blues when he made the public announcement.

Either way, it's exciting news to have a gay athlete in one of England's big sports leagues come out publicly. We look forward to finding out the identity of the player and reading his story! And in the meantime, if you recognize the player, let us know in the comments below.

We'll update this story as it develops…

Thanks to Nick Sutton for sharing the front page and to Stefan Paetow for alerting us to it.
