Dalton Maldonado, a gay former high school basketball player who now attends the Univ. of Louisville, gave a powerful presentation at Come Together Kentucky last weekend, looking to build understanding of LGBT athletes across the state.

Come Together Kentucky is a conference for college students around the state.

For his talk, Maldonado wanted to feature the stories and voices of LGBT people across sports, so he created a video including Layshia Clarendon, Jason Collins, Chris Burns, Lauren Neidigh and others. You can see the video here:

Maldonado shared thoughts about creating the video:

“I wanted to really get a variety of ideas, and I realized that having other LGBTQ members tell their story and how coming out affected them would really be the way to go. We all have our own stories and not everyone can relate to everyone story, big or small, everyone story can have a impact. I was thinking by telling my story and experience and bringing in other inspirational athletes would really have an impact and open up a great group discussion on LGBTQ in sports!”

Great job, Dalton, and thanks to Come Together Kentucky for focusing on LGBT issues in sports!
