Out bisexual boxer Nicola Adams will defend her title at the Summer Olympic Games after earning a spot in Rio at the European qualifying tournament in Turkey. Adams has been a dominant force internationally, winning major competitions for the last five years including gold in the 51kg weight class at the 2012 Olympics. She added a European championship last year and won gold at this European qualifier.
"Through this tournament I feel like I've boxed really well and I've gone from strength to strength," Adams said after her qualifier win. "I have not taken anyone lightly and have treated every competition as a final. Every time I get in the ring I have to give 110% because my opponents have nothing to lose and everything to gain so I have to make sure I go in there with my A-game and come away with the victory."
While Adams is out, she prefers to keep her private life private. Regardless of whom she is dating, it's powerful to see another LGBT face added to the Olympic roster in what we believe will be the "gayest" Olympics yet.
