Brittany Bowe has been nominated by Team USA as the Female Athlete of the Olympic Games. She’s one of five women nominated, including others like snowboarder Chloe Kim and skier Mikaela Shiffrin.

Bowe had an outstanding Winter Olympics, recording four top-five finishes in her four speed skating events. Bowe was a key component of the team pursuit event in which the United States won a bronze medal. It was the first women’s speed skating Olympic medal in 16 years.

She had competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics but hadn’t been able to crack the top five in any event.

Bowe’s participation in the Olympics was a big question mark due to a lingering concussion. Yet she persevered and ended up putting together a fantastic Olympic performance.

There were no out men nominated for Team USA’s outstanding male Olympian. Adam Rippon finished with a bronze medal, while Gus Kenworthy did not medal.
