The Human Rights Campaign’s National Dinner drew attendees from across the sports world, including four NHL players with the Washington Capitals. These four players attended the dinner last weekend in support of the LGBTQ community:

  • Braden Holtby and wife, Brandi Holtby
  • Chandler Stephenson and girlfriend, Tasha Maltman
  • Brett Connolly and wife, Katrina Connolly
  • Nathan Walker and wife, Tayla Billinghurst Walker

The four players helped bring the Stanley Cup to Washington, D.C., earlier this year.

Holtby spoke to the crowd and told the story of his and his wife’s discovery of HRC while wandering the streets of San Francisco a few years ago on their honeymoon.

Holty also introduced Adam Rippon, who took to the stage.

Professional soccer player Joanna Lohman and her partner, Ashley Platz, were also on hand for the HRC National Dinner and walked the red carpet.

As we’ve said over and over, LGBTQ acceptance is far more prominent in sports than almost anyone believes. It’s great to see these four Stanley Cup champions walking side-by-side with out LGBTQ athletes, and other members of the community, toward equality.
