While Outsports Pride won’t be taking place in Philadelphia this June as planned, we’re creating a series of interactive experiences to capture the fun and excitement of the events and conversations we usually host in person.

Whether it’s learning more about how to bring LGBTQ inclusion to sports, meeting some of your sports heroes, finally connecting with people you’ve read about, or celebrating with some fun entertainment, we’ve created a series of events all month to capture the essence of Outsports Pride.

This is in addition to our two weekly community Zoom chats, held on Friday at 7 p.m. ET/PT. You can find more information and register for those here.

Our interactive virtual programming for Pride Month will be engaging and diverse and will feature people across the LGBTQ sports world, including members of GO! Space and Equality Coaching Alliance:

June 24, 4 p.m. ET
COMMUNITY CHAT: The future for LGBTQ Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls
We’ll gather a few LGBTQ Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls to chat with our community. It will be an intimate conversation with people hoping to head to the 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo.
Guest list coming soon

June 25, 7 p.m. ET
WEBINAR: From sports to politics
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, we’ll talk with LGBTQ people in sports who have entered the world of politics. We’ll talk about the steps involved in making the transition into politics, different entry points, skills learned in sports that lead to success in politics and other issues.
Featuring: Anthony Nicodemo, coach, athletic director, union head and former candidate; Akil Patterson, athlete, advocate and candidate; Rep. Sharice Davids (D-KS); and more.

IN CONVERSATION: Two black LGBTQ athletes in Minneapolis
Two black athletes who grew up in Wisconsin will join Outsports for a personal, intimate conversation about their experiences being black and LGBTQ in the Midwest. They both live in Minneapolis right now, and they have been deeply impacted by the murder of George Floyd and the ensuing protests.
Featuring: Justin Rabon and Kaitlyn Long, former track & field athletes at the Univ. of Minnesota

EVENT: Expressing Pride and Solidarity Through Word and Song
We’ll welcome people from across the Outsports community to celebrate Pride by showcasing their talents, whether it’s singing, dancing, a magic trick or whatever. An hour of fun and entertainment!
Featuring: NFL player Ryan Russell; Olympic champion Eric Radford; Former NFL player Esera Tuaolo; Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader Kyle Tanguay; Sports writer Karleigh Webb; and more! If you have a talent you’d love to showcase, email Cyd at [email protected].

WEBINAR: How to work with your favorite team to embrace LGBTQ fans
We’ll talk with people in pro sports — from each of the Big Four American leagues — about how to reach out to your favorite team to build stronger connections to the LGBTQ community. They’ll share strategies on messaging, insight into pro-team priorities, engaging the community, etc….
Featuring: Lisa Feigenbaum & Karl Crudup, Sacramento Kings; Erik Braverman, Los Angeles Dodgers; Amy Werdine, Minnesota Vikings; Joe Altenau, New Jersey Devils.

WEBINAR: How to address homophobia & transphobia in sports when you hear it
Your teammate uses a lesbian slur. A coach says he doesn’t understand the issue with certain sensitive language. Your male teammates continually talk about sex with women. How do you address homophobic and transphobic language, as well as heterosexual conversation in the locker room, when sometimes the person saying it has no ill intentions, and sometimes they do?
Featuring: Aron Lipkin, Homegrown Lacrosse; Olivia Wynn, Temple AAD; Kaig Lightner, youth soccer coach; Giovanna Melo, CSU Bakersfield volleyball coach

We hope you’ll join us for any and all of these events. See you then to celebrate Pride!
