Kye Allums, GWU lose opener

Kye Allums' first game as an openly transgender man ended in disappointment as his team lost to Wisconsin-Green Bay, 75-51, in the Best Buy Classic. The tournament is being held in Minneapolis, near Allums' childhood home. Allums played 15 minutes and racked up 1 rebound and 1 assist.

"Kye played pretty well," Allums' head coach Mike Bozeman said, according to the Associated Press. "(Allums) had that adrenaline pumping a little bit into overdrive."

The AP also reported on the flip side of the game: Wisconsin-Green Bay's approach to a hyped-up game.

Wisconsin-Green Bay coach Matt Bollant said Allums' announcement was a non-issue.

"We didn't say anything about it all week. We chose to focus on George Washington both as a team and individually," he said. "We came here to win basketball games and we need to make sure we stay focused if we want to do that."

The GWU team went 6-22 last season.

"Kye played pretty well," Bozeman said. "(Allums) had that adrenaline pumping a little bit into overdrive.""Kye played pretty well," Bozeman said. "(Allums) had that adrenaline pumping a little bit into overdrive."
