Former FBI Director Louis Freeh has leveled serious allegations with far-reaching implications in his report on the investigation of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation case. Freeh's report claims that Joe Paterno knew about Sandusky's actions and treated them with no urgency or importance. It also claims that Penn State acted to cover up the incident. You can read the full report here.
Sandusky's was only the first head to roll over this one. The report implicates not just individuals at Penn State, but seemingly Penn State itself. Hopefully punishment will be harsh and swift. It is unfortunate that Paterno is not still alive so he could stand trial and go to prison with the rest of them.
I'm curious to see what folks will do with the famous mural of Penn State football. A halo was added to Paterno's image after he died. Sandusky was removed from the painting. I understand a man's life cannot be judged by a single incident. But, 1) This wasn't a single incident, and 2) The crime he helped cover up is so heinous...that halo ought to be removed. A halo really is deeply inappropriate after this report.
