Brendon Ayanbadejo and Matt Birk are teammates on the Baltimore Ravens. They are also on opposing sides of gay marriage -- Ayanbadejo favors it, Birk is opposed. Nonetheless, Ayanbadejo says Birk is not homophobic and they remain great teammates and their children play together. But he thinks Birk's view are outdated and told TMZ:
“Of course I disagree with his stance, but I’m not gonna tell someone how to raise their kids,” Ayanbadejo tells us. “He wants the world to be a better place for his kids."
“I think just from where we’re heading, his kids will grow up to have a different opinion from him, I’ll just leave it at that.”
It's a good and valid point, since 20 years from now this will be a non-issue. Ayanbadejo made it clear in a Baltimore Sun interview that he greatly respects Birk as a person, though they disagree. He chalks up Birk's views to "religion-based opinion."
I love that Ayanbadejo won't back down on this and continues to fight for marriage equality. He's been doing it about as long as any NFL player and does it well. He loves to engage people on Twitter and has taken to posting images that support his views. Here are three recent ones:
