EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was first published on Dec. 12, 2016. And on Sept. 30, 2017, Jen Rudolph wed golf coach Katie Brenny. Because their engagement story remains one of our most fun and touching Christmas tales, we thought we’d share it again with you today. Merry Christmas to the happy couple!

ORIGINAL REPORT:

Golf coach Katie Brenny proposed to her girlfriend, Jen Rudolph, over the weekend in perfect holiday fashion. The couple has been together since 2013.

Brenny shared the story with Outsports:

“Jen is more private than I am so I knew it had to be done with just the two of us.

“We were decorating our Christmas tree in the Berkshires. I hung the ring as a decoration right at eye-level thinking she would see it right away. It took about 15 minutes, but she finally saw it. I kept nervous-laughing waiting for her to see it. It was perfect. I hadn't told anyone except for her parents that I wanted to do this.

“We both have incredible families, which makes it truly a wonderful engagement that we all get to enjoy. We couldn't be happier.”

The couple bought their vacation home in the Berkshires earlier this year. They are planning on a wedding next autumn.

Brenny is currently a director of player development at The First Tee of METNY, which teaches golf to youth. They currently have 3,300 kids in the program of all different genders, ethnicities and classes. In 2010 Brenny was fired from her golf-coaching position at the Univ. of Minnesota for being gay. She won her lawsuit in 2014 and was awarded $360,000. She is a real hero for standing up for herself and other LGBT people.

Congratulations, Katie & Jen!
