Esera Tuaolo, the openly gay former NFL player who is competing on this season’s ‘The Voice,’ cleared his second big hurdle on the show, winning his matchup Tuesday night in The Battles.

Singing ‘This I Promise You’ by NSYNC, Tuaolo’s powerful pipes overmatched his teammate, Rebecca Bruner.

“Vocally Esera really sang out and took possession of that song,” team coach Blake Shelton said of the performance.

Tuaolo now moves onto The Knockouts round.

Sadly, the producers opted to make Tuaolo’s performance The Battles part of a montage, so the public caught only a few seconds of it. You can get a quick glimpse of Tuaolo’s performance in this montage below, which aired on ‘The Voice.’

Tuaolo hasn’t been shy about being gay on the show, talking about it extensively in the first episode of the season.

Soon he’ll need the public’s support to continue to advance in the show. In the meantime, you can follow Esera Tuaolo on Instagram, Twitter and on Facebook. You can also find his music on itunes.
