She’s 15, she’s a high school soccer superstar, and she’s already committed to play for the 21-time NCAA Champion North Carolina Tar Heels in the fall of 2022. Ally Sentnor of Hanson, Mass. is the winner of the 2019 Sports Illustrated Kids SportsKid of the Year competition.

How she learned she won is a story unto itself.

Sports Illustrated sent a camera crew to her house to interview her as a finalist for the annual award, and at one point, the interviewer asked her about the world champion USWNT, and what it was like watching them win their second consecutive trophy.

“It was amazing! “ said Sentnor. “I watched every single game.” She was wearing a “World Champions 2019” tee for the interview. “One day, I want to be there,” she said.

And then the interviewer handed her a tablet with a video from none other than her hero, Megan Rapinoe, with a special message. Fast-forward to 1:57 to view that magical moment, or just click here.

The magazine’s editors chose Sentnor because they said she embodies excellence in competition, community and the classroom.

The Sports Illustrated SportsKid of the Year issue featuring Ally Sentnor on the cover is now on newsstands. She’ll be among those honored at SI’s Sportsperson of the Year event at the Ziegfield Ballroom in New York City on Monday, December 9.

Congrats to Ally Sentnor!
