Gus Kenworthy’s pink hair is not an April Fool’s joke.
The gay skier, who has made the push for equality and visibility of LGBTQ people a hallmark of his career since coming out as gay in 2015, introduced his new ‘do to the world a couple weeks ago…
…and since then, pink hair and all, Kenworthy has been in Europe skiing and competing in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup…
…and he also says he “knocked over 4 teenage girls” (we assume he was joking) for this pic with Shawn Mendes…
Kenworthy finished 36th in slopestyle at the World Cup event in Silvaplana, Switzerland, over the weekend.
Since coming out, and over the last year or two in particular, Kenworthy hasn’t skied away from turning people’s expectations of a “masculine” world-class athlete upside down. Sure he’s not afraid to show off his built physique, but he’s also not afraid to don some ruby slippers for Halloween or don pin goggles.
It’s his flirting with femininity — and yes, his good looks — that has helped make Kenworthy so beloved in the LGBTQ community.
